Craig's Heartstrong Foundation is an established Manx charity organisation which has been primarily set up by the Lunt family in memory of their 25 year old son, Craig, a well-respected, talented and popular young Manx footballer who tragically died in April 2005. His death was due to a previously undiagnosed heart defect.
The whole purpose of Craig's Heartstrong Foundation is to raise the necessary funding to enable the heart screening of men and women between the ages of 14 and 35 here in the Isle of Man in order to detect any possible symptoms of long QT syndrome or Hypertrophic and Dilated Cardiomyopathy and thus help prevent Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS).
We have teamed up with a UK charity called Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in order to bring the island the relevant equipment and qualified staff in order to hold annual heart screening weekends.
By providing this vital screening service, our aim is to monitor and treat accordingly, any of these detectable heart defects to provide a healthy future for our island.
The foundation will be organising various fundraising events in the months ahead. By giving wholehearted support to this worthwhile charity, we can look forward to a fit and healthy future for our sporting community; to help ensure such a tragedy as Craig's may never be repeated.
